Key Points

  • Interactive visualization provides a novel method for tracking hospital-acquired infections across spatial and temporal dimensions
  • User evaluation showed 91.43% success rate in supporting clinical decision-making and epidemic analysis
  • The tool enables rapid identification of infection sources, patient contacts, and potential transmission pathways

Summary

OBViz represents an innovative interactive visualization tool designed to address the critical challenge of hospital-acquired infections (HAIs) by integrating spatial-temporal data analysis. The tool uniquely combines 3D hospital visualization, 2D disease progression tracking, and detailed tabular information to enable healthcare professionals to monitor and analyze infection spread more effectively than traditional manual methods.

Developed using Unity 3D and evaluated with 14 healthcare professionals, OBViz demonstrated strong potential for clinical decision-making, achieving a 91.43% success rate in supporting epidemic analysis. The tool's interactive features allow users to track patient movements, visualize infection progression, and identify potential transmission risks across different hospital services, offering a comprehensive approach to understanding and managing infectious disease spread within healthcare settings.
