Key Points

  • Plasma scalpel technology offers a promising minimally invasive alternative for ptosis correction
  • Mean MRD1 improvement of 2.08 mm across all patients, indicating effective lid elevation
  • Potential to reduce surgical complications associated with more invasive ptosis repair techniques

Summary

This case series explores the potential of plasma scalpel (PLEXR™) technology as a novel, minimally invasive approach to treating mild-to-moderate ptosis in six Iranian women aged 15-65 years. The study investigated conjunctivo-Muller muscle sublimation as an alternative to traditional surgical interventions, focusing on margin reflex distance 1 (MRD1) as a primary outcome measure.

The results demonstrated a significant improvement in ptosis correction, with MRD1 measurements increasing from a pre-treatment average of 1.58 mm to 3.66 mm after 6 months. The cases included various etiologies, including congenital ptosis, post-surgical ptosis, and levator muscle disinsertion, suggesting the potential versatility of this plasma technology approach.
